Banish Gluten
The following are some of the reasons your daily bread, cereal and pasta are ruining your health:
1. Eating just 2 slices of whole wheat bread will raise your blood sugar more than a Snickers bar. Repetitive high blood sugar creates resistance to insulin which to make a long story short lead us to diabetes.
2. Wheat is addictive in the sense that it will dominate your thoughts and behaviors. The protein gliadin in wheat gives it these opiate properties that impairs are abilities to say no to high carbohydrate foods and the “high” is unbearable hunger.
3. Wheat consumption has now been confidently identified as both the initiating process in autoimmunity, as well as a perpetuating factor. Wheat germ agglutinin found in the wheat kernels unlocks the tight barriers of the small intestine letting undigested food into the bloodstream increasing the risk for autoimmune conditions such as MS, Lupus, Chrohn’s, and Hashimoto’s thyroid disease.
4. Amylopectin A is a starch in wheat that triggers an increase of dangerous small, dense LDL particle formation. Small LDL particles are perfectly crafted to create coronary heart disease.
5. When you eat a lot of wheat, your liver converts it to triglyceride – containing particle. These are indicated on a lipid panel by high triglyceride levels another cardiovascular risk.
I am not only a dietitian but also the daughter of a wheat farmer. It has been very difficult coming to the conclusion that wheat is destructive to our health but it was helpful to learn that wheat produced today is not the same as what my grandparents grew. It has 10 times more gluten than wheat grown in the 90’s and the gliadin has been altered during hybridization to be a potent appetite stimulant. That is why we see most boxed foods with wheat – to stimulate appetite and keep us coming back for more. So not only is the wheat not your grandparents’ wheat it is now in everything.
